HazKnow Ltd - Dangerous Goods Consulting and Training

EXPERIENCE
Currently I am Director of Hazknow Limited, a dangerous goods consulting and training company.

Prior to this I was the Dangerous Goods Freight Manager for Tranz Rail Ltd, from 1995 until 2002, prior to this I spent 20 years in the NZ Army Logistics Corps as an Ammunition Technician (Bomb Disposal).

My prime role with Tranz Rail was the management of Dangerous Goods traffic through the company’s multi-modal transport system, Road-Rail-Sea. I was also the liaison between the Company, Government Agencies and Customers.

Part of my responsibilities was also the company trainer for all Dangerous Goods courses.

In 2001 I wrote and taught the DG module on the Lincoln University, Professional Masters, Transport Studies.

I am part time lecturing at Lincoln University teaching a dangerous goods transport paper.

I am also the author of the SNZ HB 77 Guide for the Packing and Transport of Dangerous Goods in Transport Units.

QUALIFICATIONS

LTSA Approved DG Drivers License D endorsement trainer.

NZQA Assessor for the TRANZQUAL ITO ( Old Road Transport and Logistics ITO) and  NZITO ITO.

HSNO Hazardous Substances Adviser.

HSNO Test Certifier.

I am on or have been on a number of organisations or Dangerous Goods Committees including:

(1)        Executive - NZ Institute of Hazardous Substances Management.

(2)        Charterd Member – NZ Institute Transport and Logistics

(3)        Stanadards NZ - Committee writing NZS 5433:2007 Code of Practice for
              the Transportation of  Dangerous Goods on Land.

(4)        Land Transport Rule 45001: Land Transport Safety (Dangerous Goods)
           Technical Working Group.

(5)        Standards Australia/New Zealand Joint Committee - CH9, Safe handling
            of Chemicals - where I  represented NZ and helped in the publication of 
            the  SAA/SNZ HB 76, Dangerous Goods Initial
            Emergency Response Guide.

 

(6)        Standards New Zealand HB 76: 2008, Dangerous Goods Initial
            Emergency Response Guide  committee.

(7)        LTSA Joint Committee on the Transport of Hazardous Substances.

(8)        Maritime NZ Dangerous Goods Working Group.

EDUCATION

I have a Post Graduate Diploma in Logistics from the Massey University.

Otago University , Management of Chemical Hazards.

Approved handler in control of class 1 to 6,8 and 9 substances being stored and transported by road , rail and sea.

 

Approved Handlers in control of the manufacture, storage, transportation, use in manufacturing and disposal of class 2 to 6, 8 and 9 substances (does not include handlers in control of the use of vertebrate poisons, pesticides and veterinary medicines)
